                    Tongkat Ali

What is Eurycoma longifolia used for?

Well the answer is not a simple one since it is used for a large variety of things. Many body builders use it to help them increase muscle mass. Tongkat Ali can also be used to increase libido in both men and women. This article is mainly going to focus on all of the other benefits that one can derive from taking Tongkat Ali. First off it can increase your penis and testicle size. I am not saying that you will grow five inches or anything like that because there is no drug on the market that can do that for you, and if someone tells you they can I would run away as fast as I could. However it can make a minor increase in both your penis and testicle size.
You may ask yourself well how does it do that? Well here is the answer, testicular and penis size are clearly testosterone-dependent. Every bodybuilder who uses steroids, and thereby shuts down his body's own testosterone production, can easily observe how the inactivity of his Leydig cells cause testicular and penile shrinkage. And it's a spur in Leydig cell activity, which, during puberty, causes a boy's sexual organs to become the size of a man's. Furthermore, testosterone over-production endocrine disorders during adolescence cause oversized male genitalia. Since tongkat ali causes an increase in testosterone through Leydig cell stimulation it can increase both the size of your penis and testicles. This is further supported by observations of trial participants who reported a sense of testicular and penile fullness after tongkat ali use.

Tongkat Ali Increases energy
It is true that tongkat ali increases energy levels, and here again the right dose is crucial since too high a dose will give insomnia, leading to fatigue the next day. However, if you take the right amount which wears off by evening, then you'll be just fine and happy. it is thought that tongkat ali increases energy levels through its actions on ATP.

Tongkat Ali and Cancer
Beta-carboline alkaloids isolated from tongkat ali have demonstrated significant cytotoxicity against human lung cancer (A-549) and human breast cancer (MCF-7) cell lines. In plain English, this means that some compounds in Tongkat ali can kill cancer cells. The practical significance of this finding in humans is not clear at this time.
Warning: This does not mean that Tongkat Ali can cure cancer as far as we know only chemothearpy and radiation can cure cancer.

Tongkat Ali and Malaria
Scientists have found that, in addition to its sex-enhancing effects, compounds within tongkat ali have anti-malarial properties. Some of these anti-malaria compounds are known as quassinoids.

Interesting interview from 20/20 where the effects of Tongkai Ali are validated.

AMHERST, Mass., Nov. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Aphrodisiacs are for real. Their rich botanical legacy has survived the ages in traditional cultures worldwide. Now, researchers are discovering what shamans and indigenous healers have always known.

In a revealing ABC 20/20 interview with medical correspondent Tim Johnson, MD, 'Medicine Hunter' Chris Kilham, Explorer in Residence at University of Massachusetts, Amherst, argues for the efficacy of natural plant-based aphrodisiacs. The segment aired Friday, November 5 at 10:00 p.m. ET as part of an hour-long ABC 20/20 show that explores sex myths.

Kilham visited China, India, Malaysia, Brazil, Syria, Siberia, Peru, Venezuela and Ghana in search of bona fide, time-tested botanicals used in traditional cultures for boosting sexual health, performance and pleasure…

"Aren't aphrodisiacs a bunch of hooey?" asks Dr. Tim Johnson. "Absolutely not," answers Kilham. "I have traveled the world to meet face to face with experts for every one of these hot plants. The effects of natural sex- enhancers is not imaginary." The hot plants include Tongkat Ali, Yohimbe, Siberian Ginseng, and Ginseng.

What's the science behind aphrodisiacs? "They enhance sexual function in a variety of ways," explains Kilham. "Some rid the body of stress-related compounds. Some increase arousal, performance and pleasure for her. Others enhance circulation, performance, and endurance for him. So people aren't getting a single effect," he says.

Caveat emptor: "Most aphrodisiac formulas in the market provide only trace elements or ineffective amounts of an herb," Kilham warns. "The difference between hot plants like Tongkat Ali and pharmaceuticals like Viagra is that hot plants don't just produce an erection, but create a healthy response for the whole body. None of these natural herbs, if taken according to directions, will be harmful. Apparently, not so with pharmaceuticals." (5,640 deaths reported among men using Viagra -- JAMA, July 2002)

Libidus provides 154 mg of Tongkai Ali which is 54mg more then is used in most studies on the drug.

Kilham says that real aphrodisiacs can take a week to three weeks to work their magic. "The main market for plant aphrodisiacs is baby boomers who are losing their libido, erotic sensitivity and vital circulation, and are now seriously looking for solutions," says Kilham. "However, don't discount the 20-to-30- somethings who are just plain looking for hotter sex."

"People's experience is the ultimate validation. Science does not validate experience -- it explains it," he says. "When you spend time in cultures where the herbs are used regularly, you learn quickly what's real and what isn't. I guarantee, it's never a guessing game to know if hot plants formulas are working!"

The following report appeared in the Singapore Straits Times:

Early results show men being more virile after taking tongkat ali and Malaysia now plans on bigger trial, says doctor

By Sharmilpal Kaur

MEN may stand a better chance of boosting their performance in the bedroom by turning to help from a plant rather than exotic remedies.

Preliminary tests show that tongkat ali, a herbal aphrodisiac made from the root of a plant known by the same name, can add to a man's libido and sexual prowess.

Known as pasak bumi in Indonesia, tongkat ali in Malaysia, and also as eurycoma longifolia, its scientific, Latin name, the plant grows all over South-east Asia.

Dr Ismail Tambi, who heads the Human Reproduction Specialist Centre at Malaysia's National Population and Family Development Board, said that 30 healthy males between the ages of 31 and 52 were given two capsules of tongkat ali a day for three weeks.

They reported that their performances in bed had improved - erections were stronger and, in some cases, lasted longer. Overall, they felt more virile.

Their levels of testosterone, the male hormone that plays a significant role in spurring desire and performance, doubled within three weeks. At the same time, the level of another hormone that inhibited sex fell.
